History: When it was made known by Professor Xavier that Bobby Drake was a mutant, his parents were less than thrilled. His brother was jealous, his mother terrified, and his father looking for someone to blame. He blamed Bobby for the heating bill and other insane things. When Xavier extended an invitation to the school, Bobby readily accepted just to get out of the house.
His relationship with his family was slowly deteriorated and after his brother called the cops on him during a visit, the only contact Bobby has with anyone is his mother, who sends him checks in cards with words like 'He'll come around' in them. Bobby always throws the cards away but is sure to either pocket the cash inside or drive down to the bank the same day before his dad finds out and puts a stop on the funds.
Bobby simply thought he was coming to the school to learn about his powers and still remains in the efficiency apartments while he works. He has no reason to go back home, so the island is home now.
